UK-Public Authority Police
The British Airports
Authority Constabulary
Circa ... 1966-1974
Police Officer's Cap Insignia
Maker's Mark - None.
Notes: One lug has been nicely replaced.
My references show that this Force appears to have died
out in 1974. Possibly this may be due to the B.A.A.
contracting this function out to a private company.
If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. The answer was kindly
supplied by Bob Head, UK. It was the
start of aircraft hijackings and the British Home Secretary refused to
allow the BAA Const' to be armed being a partial private Police Force.
Also BAA as a Quango company did not want one of their Policemen
shooting some passenger by mistake. So the Force of about 600, which
was responsible for the Policing of Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead,
Prestwick and Glasgow Airports was assimilated into the Constabulary
surrounding the Airport.
